They say timing is everything. And nowhere is this truer than in the fast-paced world of social media. It appears that finally Instagram thinks so too. The social media giant announced on Tuesday that it will now allow businesses to schedule their posts ahead of time. The long overdue change comes after years of users requesting the feature and may finally give merit to the word “insta” in Instagram!
The change is made possible through an update to the Instagram Graph API. Instagram will however not offer the feature itself and users will be required to use third-party software to schedule their posts. Hootsuite, Social Sprout and Social Flow all have access to the new functionality.
The first to offer the update, Hootsuite, welcomes the change. The social media management platform announced that Instagram is one of its fasted growing networks, with 25 million businesses sharing on their platform. With the time saving convenience of the scheduling feature, this is set to grow.
Standard, personal account users will be unable to use the scheduling function as of February. However, if you’re not a business user, don’t despair. The features won’t be limited to businesses in the future and the company says that support for non-business profiles is in the works for an early 2019 release. We hope to be at the right place at the right time when this happens.
