WhatsApp for Business

WhatsApp for Business is now available in South Africa.

If you haven’t heard yet, the popular instant messaging service, WhatsApp, has launched WhatsApp Business, a separate app that small businesses can use to connect with their customers. An exciting and long anticipated development, as the app has more than a billion users globally and more than 10 million users in South Africa alone. To state the obvious, your customers are online, and they’re using the green speech bubble!

How does WhatsApp for business work?

The free-to-download Android app (sorry iPhone users, watch this space) is the master of customer engagement, allowing businesses to quickly respond to customer enquiries, as well as provide them with away messages when they’re busy. Furthermore, they will be able to send greeting messages to introduce themselves to new customers and create a profile which contains useful information about their business. This could include a contact email, the physical address and the company website. Another useful marketing tool to add to your social media arsenal!
Businesses can further benefit from analytics tools that review simple metrics, such as messages read or left unopened.

How will Business’s Connect with Users?

There’s no need for ordinary WhatsAppers to download the separate app, and as a result businesses using WhatsApp Business can connect with ordinary users as normal. WhatsApp users will know exactly when they are being contacted by a business rather than an individual, as it will be clearly listed as a business account. Over time, businesses who’ve confirmed their account phone number matches their business, will receive a confirmation badge on their profile. Just like the honourable blue tick, they will become Green Tick certified!

But, wait, won’t that annoy users?

WhatsApp has reiterated that users will still have full control over the messages they receive and will be able to block numbers and report spam freely.

Want to jump on the WhatsApp Business bandwagon? The app is FREE and available to download now for Android users.
